Yes, Rabbi Susan Silverman is the sister of comedian, Sarah Silverman! Susan Silverman grew up with parents who were atheists. Yet, as a young adult, she shocked everyone who knew her and became a reform rabbi. She is also an author, activist and adoptive mom. She has recently written a book called “Casting Lots” about her decision to adopt two sons from an Ethiopian orphanage. Additionally, she is on the Board of Directors of “Women of the Wall,” a group working to attain social and legal recognition of women’s rights to wear prayer shawls, pray, and read from the Torah, collectively and aloud, at the Western Wall.

9:30 a.m.   – Shabbat Service. Rabbi Silverman will present the D’var Torah on “What it Means to be Jewish.”
11:30 a.m. – Kiddush Luncheon
12:15 p.m. – Rabbi Silverman will serve as Shabbat Scholar, and will speak on her experience with adoption.

Signed copies of “Casting Lots” can be preordered before March 6th for $24.99 at www.jewishlouisville.org/silverman. The books will be available for pickup at Adath Jeshurun on March 17th and 18th.

The Louisville Orchestra comes together at Adath Jeshurun for a performance of Sergei Prokofiev’s “Classical Symphony” on March 22 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased by calling the Louisville Orchestra at 587-8681 or online at www.louisvilleorchestra.org.
