SHARED-SYNAGOGUE TISHA B'AV SERVICE

habitat.png

Adath Jeshurun will be participating in an interfaith Habitat for Humanity build along with the four other Louisville synagogues, as well as churches and mosques. The synagogues are jointly trying to raise a total of $10,000.  AJ’s goal is to raise $3,240 of the total.  We already have commitments for around $1,000.  If you are able to contribute, even a few dollars, we would be very grateful.  Checks may be sent to AJ with a notation that the check is for “Habitat.” Click HERE to donate.

The production of “Jest A Second!” has rescheduled dates of November 17th & 18th!

Our opening production is a comedy about a Jewish family gathering to celebrate the birthday of its matriarch, Miriam.

HIGH HOLY DAYS AT ADATH JESHURUN

highholyday2019_0.png

THE HIGH HOLY DAY DEADLINE IS TUESDAY, AUGUST 20TH!

Beginning on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, the following policies are in effect:

  • Seat Reservation prices increase by $15 per person.
  • Childcare Reservation forms will only be processed with inclusion of the $25 post-deadline fee.
  • Memorial Book submissions run the risk of being left out of the booklet.
  • Please complete your High Holy Day Reservation forms and scan them to:  [email protected]

A word about AJ’s post-deadline policies:

Imagine planning a reception for 800 people, without knowing how many of them will actually be attending.  You don’t know how much food to purchase, how many place-settings to set, how many tables and chairs to rent, how many sets of dishes you need, how many servers to hire, etc.   You set a deadline so that there will be a logical point where all these decisions can finally be made.  If one or two people RSVP after the deadline, it’s not a big deal.  However, if many people wait until after the deadline, it is impossible to efficiently move ahead with your plans.

The synagogue needs to make a lot of decisions when planning for 800 guests to attend AJ High Holy Days Services.  Reservation deadlines are put into place to enable the synagogue to move ahead with tasks that can’t be done at the last minute such as assigning seats, hiring enough sitters for childcare to remain within required caregiver/child ratios, and setting the layout for the Memorial Booklet to meet the printer’s deadline.  Every time a reservation form arrives after the deadline, there are staff members, volunteers, and vendors behind the scenes who are scrambling to redo tasks and to redistribute data which had already been completed.

These deadline policies were put in to place as an incentive to return reservation forms by the deadline.  Thank you for your understanding, and we look forwarding to seeing you this year at High Holy Day Services!

IMPORTANT CHANGE IN

SHABBAT SITTER SERVICE!

sitter_service.png

Adath Jeshurun has been pleased to provide complimentary Shabbat Sitter Service every week for many years!

Currently, fewer families are utilizing Shabbat Sitter Service.  In order to be responsible with congregational funds, we are making some changes.

Shabbat Sitter Service will be provided only if advance reservations are made.  Sitter service will remain complimentary, and is offered for children six weeks old through grade 2. Parents of children using sitter service must remain in the synagogue the entire time that sitter service is being used.

AJ will continue to provide complimentary Sitter Service on days when Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremonies are scheduled, and reservations are not needed for these Saturdays.

In order for Adath Jeshurun to schedule childcare workers, reservations must be received by noon on the Wednesday prior to the Shabbat when reservations are needed.

Reservations can easily be made by registering here or by calling the AJ office at 458-5359.
